FINASTERIDE

Finasteride is most frequently used for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia and male pattern alopecia. The medicine prevents further hair loss and improves baldness by about 30% after one treatment cycle (6 months). The action will work when the drug is taken.

Finasteride is a synthetic antiandrogen that inhibits the production of one of two enzymes that convert free testosterone to dihydrotestosterone, directly linked to hair loss in men and women. Baldness develops when the follicles are genetically sensitive to DHT. The medicine acts throughout the entire baldness area: on the crown, in the middle of the head, along the front hairline. The best results are seen at the top and in the middle zone.

Finasteride is helpful for treating excessive facial or body hair growth in women. In the research of 89 women, the drug caused a 93% decrease in facial hirsutism and a 73% decrease in body hirsutism after two years of use. Other indications for using Finasteride for BPH treatment and helping to stop its symptoms (difficulty urinating, decreased urine flow).

Administration & Dosage

It is taken orally, once a day in a dosage of 5 mg, regardless of food intake. The therapy lasts approximately six months.The longer the drug is used, the more influential the result, so the treatment cycle should be long enough.It is possible to use Finasteride alone or together with Doxazosin.

The substance is available in tablets but also in lotions. The effectiveness of using the drug in the form of a cream is not as well and widespread as taking pills. Still, the lotion has an antiandrogenic effect on the follicles and minimally enters the general bloodstream.

The lotion is applied to the scalp twice a day, in the morning and the evening, in 1 ml (approximately six pressings on the spray head).

Finasteride decreases the activity of androgens in the scalp, reduces the prostate size, decreases benign prostatic hyperplasia, which lowers the risk of prostate cancer. Neurosteroids such as three alpha androstanediol and allopregnanolone activate GABA receptors, contributing to a decrease in GABA activity. Decreased activation of the GABA receptor by these neurosteroids has contributed to depression, anxiety, and sexual dysfunction.

Side Effect

When used correctly, side effects should not occur; otherwise, you may experience:

• From the immune system: hypersensitivity, angioedema.
• From the side of the psyche: decreased libido, depression.
• On the part of the heart: palpitations.
• On the part of the liver and biliary tract: enhanced activity of hepatic transaminases.
• From the side of the skin and subcutaneous tissues: redness, itching.
• From the side of the genitals and mammary glands: erectile dysfunction, impaired ejaculation, soreness of the testicles.
• Finasteride overdose does not require special treatment.
